Job Title:Consular Assistant/Receptionist


Salary:RMB 126,222 (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; 13th month bonus and employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable)

Summary of position:


Under the supervision of the Consular Officer and Consular Program Manager, the consular assistant/receptionist provides general information and front-line assistance to visitors of the Consulate General; assists to control the physical access to the Consulate and the maintenance of the waiting area; provides assistance and information to visiting or resident Canadians through the delivery of passport and citizenship services; provides information of a general nature to the Canadian and general public; assist Canadians in need of Consular assistance and, assists with other duties as required.


Essential qualifications:


Education:
•Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience


Language:
•Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
•Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing, listening, speaking)


Experience:
•Minimum six (6) months experience in dealing with the public and customer/client service
•Minimum six (6) months experience in performing general administrative duties
•Minimum one (1) year of experience working in an office environment
Abilities/skills:
•Ability to write effective business correspondence in English and Chinese using Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office
•Ability to perform verbal/written translation and interpretation from Chinese to English and vice versa.

Asset Qualifications:

Preferred standing may be given to those candidates who also meet the following:
Language:
•Proficiency in French (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Experience:
•Previous experience as a receptionist or administrative assistant in an office environment


Organizational Needs:

Conditions of Employment
•Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens; and
•Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance.
Operational Requirement:
•Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required; and
•Able to travel domestically and internationally as required.

This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Shanghai at their own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Shanghai at their own expense.
